Thin Calliper - For many applications requiring thin calliper, such as butt splicing, tape thickness can be critical. A polyester backing can be as thin as 1mm, yet still have very high dimensional strength properties. Tensile Strength - For many applications that require thin calliper and very high tensile properties, a polyester backing can be ideal. With tensile properties ranging from 20lb./in. (1mm backing thickness) to 120 lb./in. (5mm backing thickness), polyester films are some of the strongest backings available. Long Term Aging - The aging characteristics of our acrylic adhesives allow these products to work well for many long term holding and decorative applications. Where long term clarity is a requirement, transparent polyester backings, coated with acrylic adhesives, should be evaluated. Temperature Resistant - For many applications that require exposure to temperatures below 177°C for one hour, polyester backings can deliver excellent performance. Stripping Positives: The thin calliper and tear resistance of the transparent polyester backing, combined with the transfer resistance and excellent long aging properties of the acrylic adhesive, allow 3M 850 Polyester Transparent Tape to work well for stripping positives in the pre-press area of the graphics arts industry.	Splicing Low Energy Surfaces: The thin calliper and tensile strength of the transparent polyester backing, combined with the extremely high immediate adhesion and holding power of the rubber-resin adhesive system, allow 3M 396 Polyester Tape to work well for butt splicing many low energy surfaces such as polyethylene.	Plating Gold Connectors: The chemical resistance of the polyester backing, combined with the chemical resistance and flow properties of a heavy coating weight of a specially formulated rubber-resin adhesive system, allow 3M 1285 Polyester Tape to work well as a plating tape in many applications in the printed circuit board fabrication industry.

Splicing Silicone Treated Papers: The thin calliper and tensile strength of the polyester backing, combined with the excellent shear properties of the silicone adhesive system, allow 3M 8402 Polyester Tape to work well for butt splicing silicone treated papers.	Powder Coat Paint Masking: Clean removing high temperature silicone adhesives and different thickness of tough non-slivering polyester backings make the 3M 8900 Series Polyester Tapes popular choices for powder coat paint masking.
